2005-2006 programs
My short program is to “La donna e mobile” by Verdi. It is a fun, spirited program that I like to perform. I skated to Andrea Bocelli singing that song in Steve Disson’s event on NBC last year. I enjoyed skating the program so much, I made it into my new short program.

My new long program is to three of my favorite pieces by Beethoven. He is my favorite composer. He composed such powerful music that it can be “felt”, not just heard. The opening is the 5th Symphony, followed by Moonlight Sonata, and finishing with Ode to Joy. One of my favorite movies is Immortal Beloved, telling the life story of Beethoven. Although not entirely accurate to his life, it does show how his music evokes such passion and emotion.

For the first time in years, I actually look forward to practicing my programs so I can listen to the music !

DRUMS OF WAR: The young man, working in the fields, hears the drums off in the distance. He is moved as he has never been moved before…..from deep within, there is a calling. As the soldiers
approach, he makes a decision, he must go with them!
Original Soundtrack Recording The Civil War
Featured in the Film by Ken Burns
WHEN JOHNNY COMES MARCHING HOME: His steps are filled withmuch bravado as they march through town after town. He is swept up in his own confidence as they pass by the young adies blowing kisses and the old men saluting. “Bring them on!” he yells.
Original Soundtrack Recording The Civil War
Featured in the Film by Ken Burns
AMAZING GRACE: The reality of war hits hard. The dead and dying surround him by day and the screams of boys just like him, from both sides of the shooting, haunt him at night. Very quickly there's a new understanding of what he is doing here, a new sense of purpose,……. new priorities.
US Navy Band
Composer John Newton
BATTLE HYMN OF THE REPUBLIC: Yes, Johnny comes marching home. With the freedom of his country-men secure, and a respect for what that means, he is very different from the young man who heard the drums while in the field. Heading home he dreams of his family and of the life he will build……approaching the dirt road to the farm he is greeted by a group of children, one of whom runs ahead to the house proclaiming…. “He’s home! He’s home!…The Patriot is home!”
